INTERVIEW by Aija Bremšmite, Satori
Norwegian writer and performing artist Martine Næss Johansen visited Latvia in early October, leading creative writing workshops for teenagers in Daugavpils. She is the author of three novels, editor of the queer culture publication MELK, creator of the series SLAM!, and one of the leaders of the spoken word organisation SLAM!kollektivet. In the talk with Aija Bremšmite, Satori, Martine shared her insights on how to engage teenagers with literature, build relationships based on trust, and explore the behind-the-curtain of teenagers’ minds.
Workshop was part of the annual Nordic Days', which this year took place in Daugavpils. Martine's visit was supported within the Nordic-Baltic storytelling project. Since 2022, 18 storytelling experts – writers, poets, illustrators and narrators from the Nordic countries – have visited Latvia, leading workshops for young people in almost every region of the country.
