"Volny Chor" is a unique socio-cultural movement that appeared during the protests in Belarus and became a symbol of the Revolution for millions of people. "Volny Chor" appeared from actions done by musicians of the Belarusian state philharmonic in August 2020. Almost from the beginning participants from other musical groups from Minsk joined them: conductors, vocalists, choir performers, instrumentalists, regents (if more understandable – church choir conductors/ church choir leaders), bards, folk musicians, and ordinary people who wanted to sing.
Professionals and amateurs were united by one thing: a wish to stop the violence and bring back justice.
Today activities of "Volny Chor" are prohibited in its native Belarus, Belarusian songs are called an extremist. In order to preserve "Volny Chor", it was decided to move to Warsaw, where the choir can continue its active work. We wish to spread Belarusian songs all around the world, to talk about our homeland, and continue to fight for its release.
The concert "We Are Together" will be performed in five thematic parts: Part 1 "Marches", Part 2 "Detention", Part 3 "Death", Part 4 "Stand with Ukraine" and Part 5 "Emigration". The singers during the performance hide their faces for security and safety reasons.
The concert in Latvia is supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Latvia, the Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and the Swedish Embassy in Latvia.
