The conference "Wooden Architecture: History and Future in the Nordic-Baltic Region" was held in Riga on 26 April 2018 at the Glass Hall, Hotel Bergs and highlighted the latest trends in wooden architecture and the construction sector in general.

Nordic countries are becoming increasingly aware that wooden architecture is more than just a good example of using local renewable resources since wooden buildings also have an impact on human health, environmental aesthetics and local employment. The main focus was on upcycling, energy efficiency and health issues, particularly in relation to contemporary architecture and possible developments in the future. Some presentations took a historical perspective on wooden architecture in urban settings, illustrating the contribution of cities to people’s wellbeing throughout different times.

The conference was organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden and the Embassy of Finland in Latvia.
