The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia hosted the opening event of Creatures of Glass (Varelser av glas), a novel written by the Swedish writer Ulf Eriksson (1958) and translated into Latvian by Juris Kronbergs.
During the evening, the book was discussed by its author Ulf Eriksson and translator Juris Kronbergs, as well as invited co-participants: poet and translator Uldis Bērziņš, journalist and translator Ieva Lešinska and poetess Liāna Langa.
The postmodern novel Creatures of Glass has been published in Latvian by the Jánis Roze publishing house. It is a story about four sceptically-minded intellectuals, whose life-paths cross due to sheer coincidence. It is a story brimming with memories, references and contemplation amidst the contemporary world of emptiness and insipid consumerism. The book has been published with the financial support from the Swedish Arts Council (Statens Kulturråd).
