Nordic Baltic Designers events will start with wonderful Danish chair exhibition

" With the wonderful Danish chair exhibition ""The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition – Whiteout"", Nordic Baltic Designers events will start 6th October at Riga Art Space. Whiteout is a result of innovative and surprising ideas. This year exhibition has been in Tokyo and London and now 38 brand new snow-white chairs are coming to Riga. White is the new black in the Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition 2010, where the theme “Whiteout” refers both to the color white and to the weather phenomenon, where snow, fog or haze reduces visibility. The association’s members and the guest exhibitors have unfolded their playful side, combined fantasy and functionality and developed 38 innovative chair prototypes condensed from a sea of snowwhite concepts, experiments, technical challenges and painstaking detailing. The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition is an association of Danish furniture manufactures and designers. The purpose of association is to develop and stage an annual exhibition of new and experimental furniture types with strong practical and artistic qualities and excellent craftsmanship. The association acts as an innovation lab for future furniture types and concepts. The association’s furniture manufacturers team up with the association’s designers to create experimenting works in a non-commercial forum – with the goal of setting innovation free and working from a non-profit-oriented agenda. In the Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition ANYTHING is possible.
Association offers furniture that is based on an overarching theme, a specific idea or a general framework that has been determined by the Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition for that year, which the members have to cooperate on. Brand new furniture blazes new trails in new contexts, guided by new ideas. Not as drafts on a sheet of paper but as tangible and feasible prototypes that are ready for use. The usability and the tangible experience of the furniture is a key feature of the Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition, since normally the public is not allowed to sit in or on the exhibits.
Thus, over the past 29 years, the annual Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition has become a recurring event that the public and the press look forward to, as this is the place for spotting the future’s new classics and design seeds, and the place where prototypes of potential future blockbusters are introduced.
The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition has received an award from Statens Kunstfond in Denmark on the occasion of the association’s 30 years anniversary. Statens Kunstfond issued the following statement: “The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition has become the primary forum for experimental Danish furniture making and the exhibitions confirm that there is currently plenty of talent around. In the exhibitions young creative talents show their work side-by-side with the trade’s experienced masters. The crucial idea of the association, to let designers meet the furniture manufacturers in an experimental environment free of commercial constraints, has released a lot of creative energy”.
The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition offers a new take on the classic image of Danish design. That is why the international showings of the Whiteout exhibition is supported by The Danish Arts Agency, Traefonden and Development Centre UMT. The centre’s Managing Director, Betina Simonsen, says: “The Danish furniture industry is bursting with innovative ideas and initiatives, but abroad we’re often still mainly associated with the well-known classics. By demonstrating how designers and manufacturers develop new products together in The Cabinetmakers´ Autumn Exhibition, we will draw attention to Denmark’s strong competencies in innovation on the one hand and strengthen the promotion of products made by our many skilled designers and manufacturers on the other.”

You can find more information about exhibition Whiteout and Nordic Baltic Designers events at www.nbde.lv and also visit the association’s website www.se-design.dk which is also one of the world’s largest prototype databases, as it features all the experimenting furniture works from the past 29 years of exhibitions.
