Latvian Youth Policy Institute has published a resource material “The ABC of youth policy”, devised within the framework of the project “Youngsters for strategic youth policy development in municipalities” and applicable in all instances related to youth policy. The project has been implemented with financial support from the European Commission, the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Soros Foundation - Latvia. Within the project “ Youngsters for strategic youth policy development in municipalities” the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia through the Nordic-Baltic NGO program supported the activities of youth policy experts in Latvian municipalities as well as the examination of youth policies in Sweden and Estonia.
The publication relies on earlier findings from a Youth Policy Institute project conducted in six Latvian municipalities where the institute advised on the municipal policy for youth. The Youth Policy Institute suggests that municipalities should revise their past activities aimed at youngsters, focusing primarily on the cornerstone notions of youth policy and evaluating their implementation in practice. Likewise, it is worth discussing conceptual contradictions in youth policy planning as well as identifying main practical steps for efficient implementation of youth policy - a precondition for improved life quality of youngsters.
