Applications are open for a hackathon Future of Food that will be held in Riga on February 18-19. As the climate crisis and loss of biodiversity determines global economies to shift, it becomes increasingly important for us to change the current food production and consumption habits towards a more sustainable and thoughtful future. The hackathon will look for ideas on building sustainable food systems.
The 24h hackathon will provide a platform to connect students, food innovators, startup founders and leading industry experts to brainstorm, build and validate new ideas with the potential to transform the food sector. The participants will be invited to offer fresh perspectives on current issues in the areas of food production, processing and consumption, and develop new approaches through the lens of digitalization and technology to work towards a more sustainable and thoughtful future. The participants will aim to build practical solutions that solve issues through an innovative approach, developing projects within the following four sectors: food waste, reduce plastics, new food, and digitalization.

The hackathon Future of Food will be held in Riga on February 18-19 during the week of TechChill, the leading startup and entrepreneurship event in the Baltic startup ecosystem, and all confirmed participants will also get a free 2-day General Pass to attend the TechChill conference on February 20-21 along with 2000 startup founders and enthusiasts.

Moreover, the organisers offer a travel & accommodation grant for international participants from Nordic countries - Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, (or the autonomous territories of Åland, Faroe Islands, and Greenland) and the Netherlands, and participants from Estonia and Lithuania will be offered free travel options both ways (return dates assuming attendance at TechChill).

The Future of Food hackathon is open to individuals at least 18 years old from any country, with preference being given to current and potential entrepreneurs, students and academics, technology sector representatives and professionals interested in or with prior experience in the food sector. When applying, you will have the option to suggest your own ideas and develop it with the help of others, or join a team and build an idea together.

The hackathon Future of Food is organised by The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia, EIT Food Hub Latvia, Riga Technical University Design Factory and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Hackaton will take place at Kultūrvieta Spīdola, Ieriķu 5s, Rīga.
