International workshop on "Product Information as a Tool for Consumers to Reduce Risks for Environment and Human Health" will take place in Riga, at the "Georgs" Hall of the hotel "Konventa Seta" on September 6, 2005.
The goal of the workshop is to increase the level of knowledge of consumer protection and environmental non-governmental organisations with regard to risks caused by the use of household chemicals. These risks can be minimized if consumers decrease the usage of household chemicals in everyday life and pay more attention to products with ecolabels - "Nordic Swan, "EU Flower", Blue Angel and others.
The participants will discuss the tools that can be used for information work with consumers. Another important goal of the workshop is to facilitate network in this field involving Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark, Norway, Germany and Russia.
There will be around 30 participants at the seminar - representatives from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Russia, experts on ecolabelling from Norway and Denmark, as well as from Germany.
The workshop is organised by the Baltic Environmental Forum within the project “Ways for consumers to reduce risks for the environment and human health related to daily use of chemicals”, implemented by the Baltic Environmental Forum with the financial support from the Nordic Council of Ministers.
