The dance and music centre BARAKA and the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Latvia continues to present the project YOUNG NORTH which focuses on the contemporary dance from five Nordic countries.

YOUNG NORTH is a series of events presenting young Nordic dance in Riga. Through guest performances and workshops we introduce new and strong voices from the young generation of Nordic choreographers and dancers. YOUNG NORTH hosts performances and creative workshops over 3 days. Our aim is twofold - to reach out and attract regular audiences in Riga, as well as create a meeting place between young professionals from Nordic countries and Latvia.

YOUNG NORTH 3rd edition presents young Norwegian artists. In December 2005 we present two of the most interesting young Norwegian choreographers of different artistic background that has lately made strong appearance at the Norwegian dance scene - Alan Lucien Øyen (Bergen) and Andreas Dyrdal (Bergen/London). They bring to Riga their latest productions, as well as lead workshops for Latvian dancers.

The selection of the artists has been done together with BIT Teatergarasjen in Bergen, one of the main producers of national and international contemporary theatre and dance in Norway. BIT is a very important stage for presenting of productions through theatre festival "Meteor", dance festival "Oktoberdans" and regular programme during the whole year.

Performances: December 12-13 at 19.30 in the Small hall of the Riga New Theatre

YOUNG NORTH started in spring 2004 with presentations of Finnish dance. This pilot project was continued with the next edition introducing young Swedish dance artists in January 2005. The event was extremely successful both with professionals, attending masterclasses and by a general audience, bringing two fully sold out nights of performance in the small hall of Riga New Theatre.
