The conference „The Nordic Welfare Model: What’s in It for Latvia?” will take place on Thursday, 15 November 2012, 12:15 - 17:00 in the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, 4a Strelnieku Street. In 2012, Norway has the chairmanship at the Nordic Council of Ministers. In this year’s programme the Nordic welfare model is essential. This is why the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Riga, together with the Swedish, Danish and Finnish Embassies and the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office, will highlight some aspects of the Nordic welfare state at a conference in Riga on Thursday, 15 November 2012. These are some of the questions to be raised:

Is the Nordic welfare model relevant for Latvia today? How different are we? What are the major challenges and achievements on the way towards welfare in the Nordic countries? The conference will focus on youth, education, employment, gender and equality, as well as on the welfare model as such. Nordic and Latvian lecturers will share their particular perceptions of development in modern democracies.
Working language of the conferece will be English and Latvian (with simultaneous interpreting). Moderator: Inga Spriņģe from the Baltic Centre for Investigative Journalism Re:Baltica.
