The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia, the printing house ""Diena"" in cooperation with the Finnish Embassy in Latvia invite to a literary event with the participation of Finnish writer Katja Kettu, the author of the novel Kätilö (Midwife), taking place on 20 November,  18.00 at the premises of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia, 13/3 Marijas Str. (Bergs Bazaar), Riga. Conversation will be held in English.
The novel tells the love story of a Finnish midwife and a German Nazi officer who meet in the autumn of 1944 in Paltamo. This framework allows Ketu to outline the position of women in the Second World War prison camps. Katja Kettu’s language is simultaneously grotesque, magical, and authentic. The Midwife has become a literary phenomenon, topping the bestseller charts. The novel has sold more than 60.000 copies in Finland. Novel is translated  into Latvian by Maima Grīnberga.
