In recent years some of the Nordic films have raised questions concerning the involvement of Nordic troops in peace-keeping missions. Prof. Viktors Freibergs (University of Latvia) will speak about the psychological impact of war as rendered in films: how a person can cope with the traumatic experience, how it influences one’s psyche and how the surroundings and the media view the home-coming soldiers. Excerpts from the following films will be screened: Little Soldier (Lille Soldat, 2008, Anette K. Olesen, Denmark), Brothers (Brødre, 2004, Susanne Bier, Denmark), Armadillo (Armadillo, 2010, Janus Metz Pedersen, Denmark) and others. The lecture will be held in Latvian.
