Public awareness about the inclusion of different social groups is growing, and new target groups are embraced by such an industry as tourism as well – a national economy sector which is of major importance for Latvia. Tourism products and services which are accessible to everyone can attract a whole new market share - people with movement difficulties.
We welcome you to attend the seminar ”Fostering environmental accessibility in the tourism sector” taking place on 26 January at the EU House in Riga, 28 Aspazijas Boulevard, from 10.00 until 13.00. Potential seminar participants are tourism industry professionals (hotel and restaurant representatives in particular), employees of tourism information centres and museums, as well as representatives of the NGOs working with people with movement difficulties. The seminar will provide information about the grant programs administered by the Nordic Council of Ministers and will try to raise public awareness about the people with movement difficulties as equal participants on the tourism market. The principles of universal design will be presented - its benefits and possibilities which the tourism industry can avail of. Oslo, the capital of Norway, has been working for several years with spreading information about the available tourism products and services; representatives from the Oslo Tourism Information Centre will share their experience during the seminar. A model for environmental accessibility criteria for hotels, restaurants and conference premises will be presented as well.
The seminar is organised by the Latvian Cooperation Body for Disability Organisations SUSTENTO within the framework of the project ”Fostering environmental accessibility in the tourism sector” financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
