As a part of the process aimed at reforming the public broadcasting system and organisations in Latvia, the National Electronic Media Council, the Centre for Media Studies at SSE Riga, the Soros Foundation Latvia, and The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia are organising a public discussin on the future of the news in public media. The event will take palce on Friday, September 28 from 14:00-17:00 at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, Strelnieku iela 4a.
ƒThe discussion will open with two presentations. Media researcher JÄnis JuzefoviÄs will present a study which explores news media preferences amongst the media audience in Latvia, with emphasis on the role palyed by Latvian Television, the public service broadcaster, in every-day news consumption. In addition, Zane ÄŒulkstÄ“na from the National Electronic Media Council will provide information on progress in developing a long-term startegy and action paln for creating a new public broadcasting corporation thet would include TV, radio and weboutlets. Following the presentation, participating media professionals will be divided in four discussion groups; each of which will address a series of questions regarding the future of the news in public medis. All groups will then present their recommendadtions.
