The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia in conjunction with SA Pärnumaa Tourism and Tartu University Pärnu College, announcing a competition to design a web-based game aimed at promoting tourism. The purpose of the tourism game is to introduce and present the Nordic and Baltic countries as a thrilling tourism region, showcasing its variety of wonderful possibilities and attractions. The winning entrant’s model will be promoted as a practical tool for both tourists and students in tourism studies from all over the world.

The UN World Tourism Organisation has predicted the Baltic Sea region will find itself positioned between the two most vibrant tourist regions in Europe until 2020. Northern and Central/Eastern are Europe’s top tourist havens and the Baltic Sea region is set to continue to benefit from their popularity.
In Estonia the tourism sector accounts for 8% of the country’s GDP.
Acknowledging the relevant share of tourism sector in economy we have announced the competition for constructing the Baltic Sea region tourism study-game web portal. The call is open for everyone and proposals (in English or Estonian) must be submitted before October 20th, 2008 by e-mail: tartu@norden.ee

The idea stemmed from the preparation of the Nordic Forum seminar Creative Tourism. Innovative Networks and Clusters in Tourism Development in the Baltic Sea Region in May, 2008 in Pärnu. Event was arranged in cooperation between the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia, Tartu University, SA Pärnumaa Tourism and Pärnu County Government and Nordic Innovation Centre.
Prizes and more details on the competition's web page: http://guide.norden.ee/en.html
