From August 29 to November 30, an exhibition of children’s books dedicated to Nordic literature “Book Floods. The North Meets the Baltics in Children’s Books” will be on the seventh floor of the National Library of Latvia (LNL). The exhibition feature Nordic books in both translated and original languages, including nominees for previous years of the Nordic Literature Prize. But the main thing, going through the exhibition, is the opportunity to participate in various activities. The idea for the exhibition and its name originated in Iceland, where “Book Floods” or “Jólabókaflóðið” is the time before Christmas, when Icelanders give each other books. That’s why the most productive time for book publishers is from September to November. The author of the exhibition, writer and illustrator Kristín Ragna Gunnarsdóttir, calls his books bridges that help to get to know near and far lands and cultures. The exhibition will feature works by authors from Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Sweden, as well as the Faroe Islands, Åland Islands and Greenland. According to the creators of the exhibition, going through the exhibition, children will have the opportunity to participate in various activities – draw, stamp, build a poem from cubes, rain through the holes of the volcano, get to know Pepi’s house, watch videos, move around the ship, change clothes or write your own stories. At each of the exhibition stops, children will be able to study and read books. Throughout the literary tour, children will be accompanied by the brightest image of the exhibition – the Midgard snake.
