On December 6, at 5 pm, we extend a warm invitation to all art enthusiasts to join us at the School of Music and Art in Krāslava Municipality for the grand opening of the exhibition titled “With a Little Help from My Friends” featuring works by Ukrainian and Latvian artists.
The following day, December 7, at 3 pm, Jana Ribkina will host a workshop on the popular topic of comics. The workshop offers a creative space for young individuals to explore their imagination by crafting new comic characters and stories, drawn from either fantasy or personal experiences. Participants will also learn how to turn a single A4 page into a miniature book.
The exhibition showcases the works of both seasoned and emerging artists, including Anna Vaivare, Betty Jakaite, Herta Balode, Hoders, Inga Ziemele, Yuri Tatarkin, Katrina Sadovnikova, Xenia Tarasova, Madara Krezina, and Xozusias. The exhibition is supported by the The Nordic House in Reykjavik and the Pauls Stradins Museum of the History of Medicine. The collaboration with Krāslava Municipality representatives has been run by the Daugavpils Branch of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia.
This exhibition builds upon the partnership between the organisation “kuš! komikss” and the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia. This year’s initiative included also a three-day artist workshop organised by our colleague Ieva Hermansone. The workshop provided participants, including Ukrainian and Latvian artists Anna Sarvira, Bohdana Zaiats, Zhenya Oliinyk, Zlata Novykova, Jana Ribkina, Rebeka Lukoshus, and local young artists, with an opportunity to share skills, experiences, and insights and turn those into illustration and comics. They also explored various new methods and techniques of visual storytelling.
The exhibition will be on display until January 10.
