From 7 to 10 April, a study visit to Finland was organised within the framework of the joint Nordic-Baltic project Fostering Refugee and Immigrant Integration – FOR-IN 2.0. Project partners participated in the visit coordinated by Vadims Murašovs, Advisor at the Daugavpils’ Office.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen cross-border cooperation by identifying ways to improve the integration of refugees and immigrants in the Nordic and Baltic region. Participants learned the Finland’s experience and got a closer look into recent Finnish initiatives in this field.

The programme included visits to Helsinki Central Library Oodi, the Nordic Welfare Centre, the Maritime Centre Vellamo and the Tampere Vocational College Tredu. Participants also met with representatives of the Municipality of Kotka discussing immigrant integration services at the local level.

The visit highlighted the importance of cooperation between municipalities, non-governmental and religious organisations, and demonstrated the impact of joint efforts when developing initiatives together. It also provided participants with an opportunity to meet with their counterparts in the Nordic countries, exchange experience and discuss the potential for adapting Finnish approaches in Latvia.

The study visit was organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia within the framework of the joint Nordic-Baltic project Fostering Refugee and Immigrant Integration – FOR-IN 2.0.
