The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia is offering an internship opportunity in Riga for a student residing in a Nordic country. Term: from 15 January to 30 June 2026. This is a unique chance to test your skills in an international environment while contributing to the promotion of Nordic values and democracy in Latvia.
The Nordic Council of Ministers works in areas such as politics, democratic processes, resilience, society, culture, welfare, business and communication. As an intern, you will be assigned to work with one or two of our advisors, depending on your profile and interests. Your specific tasks will be defined together with the team, but you will certainly be involved in communications and in promoting the visibility of the office’s work both internally within the Nordic Council of Ministers and externally.
What you will do
You will work closely with excellent local colleagues and experience varied and engaging workdays – both in the office and out in the field. In addition, you will be introduced to a wide range of local and international stakeholders, such as other interns at the Nordic embassies and EU institutions, NGOs and other local and international partners.
Main responsibilities
- Assist with planning and implementing conferences, meetings and outreach activities, sometimes representing the Office.
- Draft reports from meetings, conferences, and other events.
- Support the Director with project and budget-related tasks.
- Support Advisors on their daily tasks.
- Carry out ad hoc assignments.
Duration and application deadline
We are looking for an intern for the period 15 January 2026 – 30 June 2026.
The application deadline is 1 November 2025.
Requirements
You must be a student and remain enrolled at a higher education institution at the bachelor’s or master’s level throughout the internship. You must have permanent residence in one of the Nordic countries and remain enrolled in the same study programme in your country of residence during the internship.
Qualifications
We are looking for a student with strong analytical and innovative abilities, a high level of drive and engagement, and a curious, creative, open, and positive approach to tasks. You are encouraged to include examples of this in your application. We expect you to have good command of a Nordic language and English, as well as proficiency in the MS Office suite.
The internship should contribute to your education and will take place under the guidance of an academic supervisor. We recommend that you, before applying, check what academic requirements your educational institution has regarding internships.
Holidays and working hours
Working hours are an average of 37 hours per week (including lunch break). You will earn 2.08 days of vacation per month of internship.
Accommodation, grants and reimbursement of expenses
The internship is unpaid, but the Nordic Council of Ministers provides accommodation. The apartment is located within walking distance of the office, in the central part of Riga. In addition, certain costs will be reimbursed, such as travel expenses related to business trips and travel to and from Latvia at the beginning and end of the internship.
As the internship takes place in an EU country, there are good opportunities to apply for an Erasmus+ grant or similar. However, it is the applicant’s own responsibility to apply for such support.
