How can young individuals actively and effectively engage in climate action? How can we ensure that the green transition is both gender-inclusive and equitable? What actionable steps can we take?
The convergence of the triple planetary crisis – climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss – demands urgent attention to secure a viable future for current and upcoming generations on our planet. The manner in which we address these challenges holds significant implications for gender equality and the diverse experiences of young people, as the impacts of climate change magnify existing gender disparities and introduce distinct threats to livelihoods, health, and safety. While today's youth spearhead climate activism, opportunities for their empowerment and capacity-building remain inadequate.
We are delighted to cordially invite passionate young activists from the Nordic and Baltic regions, as well as international youth activists, to participate in this essential youth conference. The event is jointly organized by the National Council of Swedish Children and Youth Organisations, the Nordic Council of Ministers, and UN Women. Its primary aim is to strengthen capacity-building efforts and empower young individuals in advocating for their rights within the realms of climate action and gender equality. Through fostering collaboration and dialogue across geographical boundaries, our intention is to formulate concrete policy recommendations that will be presented to Nordic governments, consequently playing a pivotal role in upcoming events, including COP28.
