On 15 May, the Nordic-Baltic Contact Group, a part of the justice sector within the Nordic Council of Ministers, with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Latvia, organised an expert seminar centred on Nordic-Baltic cooperation with Ukraine concerning the justice sector.
The seminar was organised under the NB8 regional cooperation framework, which includes Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden, and brought together specialists from various justice fields across all member countries. The purpose of the gathering was to facilitate expert discussions on coordinating and supporting various justice-related subjects.
The opening remarks were delivered by Lauma Paegļkalna (in the title image), Parliamentary Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Justice. The seminar featured experience-based stories about the implementation of prison and probation reforms in various countries. It also outlined how to most effectively support Ukraine’s reforms, improve resocialisation, introduce modern dispute resolution methods and assist Ukraine on its path toward EU integration and the enhancement of its judicial system.
The event was held at the Wellton Riverside SPA Hotel in Riga, following a reception at the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia on the evening of May 14.
