The International Festival of Contemporary Theatre Homo Novus is the leading performing arts festival in Latvia and one of the biggest in the Baltic region. It takes place in Riga and introduces audiences to both new and renowned artists that seek ways of expressing their views and opinions about the world and the society. Festival offers a range of performances as well as seminars, workshops and other activities.
This year the Festival of Contemporary Theatre “Homo Novus” will take place in Riga from September 1 to 9, containing to create a space for conversations, encounters and experiences impossible to discover elsewhere.
One of the participants of the Festival will be a Greenlandic electronic musician/producer and DJ Aqqalu Berthelsen, better known as Uyarakq. His musical background varies from metal to funk, which he played with a passion in his youth in Greenland and Denmark. He’s now producing electronic music and produces hip hop for Inuit rappers. He’s also the man behind the music label and production company, Mediahouse Qunnersuaq. He was nominated for Nordic Councils Music Prize in 2016 for his collaborative work, Kunngiitsuuffik, with the indigenous rapper, Peand-eL. soundcloud.com/uyarakq
