An internship opportunity in our organisation had previously been mainly offered to students from Nordic countries. However, this year the position was also open to local students, giving them the chance to experience the Nordic working environment within an international organisation. Following the selection process, two students from the University of Latvia have joined our team.
Luīze Slicāne is a fourth-year student in the International Economics and Commercial Diplomacy programme at the University of Latvia. Her interest in international cooperation and the Nordic countries arose when she spent an academic year in Denmark, getting to know the culture, society and its values. This experience inspired Luīze to develop her academic and professional life in an international environment.
Agnija Janeka is a final year Political Science student at the University of Latvia. She has completed summer internship at the Development Department of the Liepāja City Council. As part of the Region Europe programme, Agnija has studied at the University of Turin in Italy exploring the political, economic and security dimensions of European integration. She has also graduated from the entrepreneurship and leadership programme Future Heroes, and her academic interests focus on international relations, particularly diplomatic processes that promote cooperation and sustained dialogue between states.
Luīze works directly with the Office Coordinator, and Agnija – with the Communications Advisor. At the same time, many of their tasks involve supporting the entire team of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia.
