On June 7 Nordic embassies and the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia jointly celebrated national days of each Nordic country. The event took place in the Dome Cathedral’s garden in Riga Old Town, gathering more than 300 distinguished guests. The opening speech was given by Karin Höglund, Ambassador of Sweden to Latvia, since this year Sweden holds the presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The Uppsala Cathedral Choir opened the event performing the Latvian national anthem, followed by the anthems of each Nordic country and Nordic-themed acapella songs. This was a closed event. The guest list included ambassadors of other countries, ministers and other Latvian public officials, as well as representatives of active local civic organisations.
This annual event is an opportunity to meet local partners of other embassies, thus broadening the circle of contacts and the Nordic perspective among the local society.
