    Vidzeme Innovation Week 2025

The annual Vidzeme Innovation Week will take place from February 24 to 28, bringing together innovation enthusiasts from Latvia and abroad. On Friday, February 28, our colleague Maija Kāle will also be hosting a free event on transforming food systems.

In total 35 events will be held throughout the week – conferences, seminars, discussions and workshops. Although the main location is Vidzeme, events will take place in also in other cities across Latvia. Vidzeme Innovation Week is organised by the Vidzeme Planning Region, and the umbrella theme for this year’s events is Courage (in Latvian – uzdrīkstēšanās). Organizers explain the intended encouragement behind it:

Innovation isn’t just about new technologies or ideas – it’s about actions that reshape systems, processes and mindset. It can take the form of a fresh approach, an improved process or a bold decision that redefines how things are done. Courage is a choice. A choice to look for new approaches and make decisions that drive progress. It is also an ability to reject ideas that hold back growth and the willingness to learn from experience, including mistakes.

On Friday, February 28, we invite you to an event Transforming Food Systems: Bold Ideas and the Role of Innovation in Industrial Symbiosis, hosted by Maija Kāle, Sustainability Advisor. To understand the potential and opportunities of circular economy and bio-industrial symbiosis, we have invited strong experts who study the sector on a daily basis. The event will be an inspiring opportunity to learn from pioneers here in Latvia and in other Baltic Sea Region countries. The aim of this event is to encourage everyone to dare to think big dreams, be open to innovative ideas and be part of the change.

Events taking place during the Vidzeme Innovation Week will cover a wide range of fields and topics related to innovation – from agriculture and forestry to future marketing and virtual reality. On February 26, the all-day forum “Uzdrīkstēšanās” will take place at the Cēsis Concert Hall, whereas on February 27, the youth innovation forum “Uzdrīksties darīt, uzdrīksties radīt!” will be held in Valmiera. Full programme is available on the organizer’s official website.
