On March 19–20 and on April 11, the association Debate Centre organised a debate tournament focused on the benefits of wind farms and their environmental impact.
The tournament took place in two stages. The first stage was held on March 19–20 at Daugavpils State Gymnasium, bringing together debate schools from the Latgale region, including participants from Daugavpils, Jēkabpils, Rēzekne, Rudzāti and Krāslava. Approximately 90 students and 10 teachers, coaches and judges took part in the event.
The second stage was held on April 11 at Riga Āgenskalns State Gymnasium, where the 34 strongest teams from all regions of Latvia competed. In both stages, energy and sustainability advisors from the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia –Gints Janums and Armands Jukums – participated as judges.
Youngsters concluded that wind farms enable productive use of Latvia’s natural resources, reduce foreign dependence and can foster country’s economic development.
